Cells

I can't see you but I know you're there

In the end I hope you don't take my hair

I never wanted to meet you but you insisted
You won't seem to let go even if I resisted

The news was unexpected and undeserved
As I walk this world alone no one knows how much it takes to be reserved

You're from a past life from a person that is no more
They may be gone but you stayed to change my cells from what they were before

The tests progressed and I got the news
Even so it's my body and I must choose

You're unfair and unkind
But I'm convinced like the person who gave me you I will leave you behind

You won't take my flesh, my blood, or my peace
I've got more fight in me than your disease

Let the treatment come and the surgery prevail
The darkest of waters I will sail

You may live in the walls of what I hope will one day bring life
But just know you won't continue your trife

You can't see me but just know I'm there
I'll keep going because with you my body I'm unwilling to share
